As fall comes to an end and winter is fast approaching we have been looking back on all of our great adventures and memories we have made this past year. We have been so many cool places and seen some amazing sites; from the highest point in the Uinta Mountains, down to the red rock of Zion National Park, and so much in between. As we were talking about the places we have been and making plans for what we still want to do, we couldn’t stop laughing at some of the things that happened to us this past season. While we go to these amazing places for the scenic views, and hope for a perfect experience and trip, it’s always the unexpected moments, or the funny, unplanned things that happened to us that leave a lasting memory.

With winter and the holidays coming up we know we won’t be getting out every weekend like we have been lately. We have a few trips planned to curb our cabin fever but it’s not always easy or convenient with our snowy Utah winters. One of our upcoming trips that we are looking forward to is visiting Arches and Canyonlands and we are crossing our fingers we will be lucky enough to see the famous Utah arches covered in snow!

We have also been dying to see another monumental site known as, “The Wave” which is on the Utah/Arizona border. This is a site where only a small number of people are allowed in each day and you need to obtain a permit a few months in advance. We haven’t been lucky enough to draw out yet, but this would be another perfect winter getaway in search of warmer weather.

We like to plan trips like this and have things to look forward to because it helps us get through the chilly winter months. We are already looking forward to next summer and have a list of new places we want to see and explore. Does anyone have any good ideas for us to add to our list? What are some of your favorite things to do to get through the off season months?

  1. Loving revisiting these places with you. I remember the Moab motel swimming pool where we went after Arches! Funny what you remember.
We liked cross country skiing in the winter. Cheap after initial investment unlike downhill.

    1. It is funny what you remember and how certain things will all the sudden jog your memory! I’ve never been cross country skiing but have been snow showing! Lol…skiing is an expensive hobby for sure! Thanks for reading Elizabeth!

  2. I love love love planning out little getaways and vacations, its really a great motivator to get through anything; work, winters, stressful times, etc. You guys should go do the Caribbean Islands! That way I can live vicariously through your pictures lol

    1. Definitely Jenny! It’s so nice to have something to look forward to…I love planning trips and getting excited…it really does help get through the boring work days when you have something amazing coming up! Lol! I would love a trip to the Caribbean Islands sometime too… I would live at the beach if I could!

  3. These are great ideas. Living in chicago has really made it hard for me too when winter roles around. I’m always trying to find conservatories though. They always make me feel good!

    1. I know sometimes you just need to find things to do to fill the time until summer rolls back around! Glad you’re finding things to do in Chicago! I wish I could just go south for the winter! Lol

  4. You two are super adventuresome! Your pics look awesome. You’ve done some fun stuff! For me, half of the fun is the planning and dreaming about it before the trip ever gets here.

    1. It sure makes it exciting leading up to the trip doesn’t it? We love to have something to look forward to! We get home from one place and already start thinking about the next!

  5. As a native Californian, I don’t think I have very great offseason tips besides heading west. Although the drive from Utah is totally doable so maybe you should head on over.

  6. You know, these cold winter months are perfect for people who love their seasons and who love the snow and all the activities that come with it. For the rest of us – not sure how many of us there are… 🙂 – who love warm weather, winter sucks! We try to get as much south as possible and hope the sun is out during the weekends, so we can get out and go for a hike with multiple layers of clothing on. 🙂 In our specific situation, we hope a house sit in Southern California, Arizona or New Mexico comes up soon.

    1. I love that! Lol.. we will take anything that gets us out in the sunshine! I’ve never been big into winter activities and I don’t ski so I’ve never been a big fan! Hoping for a mild winter with little snow so we’re back in the warmth soon! Until then it will be some day activities since it’s way too cold to sleep outside! Thanks for reading!

  7. My husband and I have subscribed to what we call the “oasis escape” that you are talking about here. We try to plan getaways, some exotic, some more like stay-cations where you do something like a tourist in your own backyard, at regular intervals throughout the year. After Christmas, we are planning a wee escape to the wild & rocky storm battered coast of Vancouver Island in February… just a few days, but a hop over the mountains and an exciting oasis nevertheless. We’ll recharge our batteries with a few fun adventures, and see a different landscape… something that always charges our batteries.

    1. Definitely feel the same way! There is no better way to feel recharged and energized for us besides getting outside! It helps break up the monotony of dreary winter months to plan some escapes and adventures! Thanks so much for reading!

  8. I am too spoiled by the comforts of easy living. Outdoors living looks fun but I know is very challenging.
