While we love to get out and about and explore the world around us, we also just love the times we get to be home! We live in the prettiest state surrounded by mountains, so we try to take advantage of some of the amazing places near by, and just enjoy our summer nights in our back yard 🙂 The sunflowers covering the fields around our neighborhood this time of year are my favorite!

Payson Lakes is a quick drive for us up the canyon so when we have a free afternoon we like to head up to these lakes, or places like this so we can get outside and take a break from the busy city life. It’s so convenient because it’s close, but at the same time you get the feeling you are isolated in the mountains once you start driving up the winding road. Last year this area had a massive fire on this mountain, so sadly some of the pretty views you once got from the side of the road  are now covered with fire damage and a lot of the giant aspen trees that once covered the mountain are gone. Luckily the fire didn’t destroy everything because once you are high enough in elevation you still get to enjoy the lakes and trails. This was our first time trying to go back up this canyon since the fires, so it was humbling to see what was lost, and what still remains.

When you get here, there are multiple lakes to go to and even trails so you can walk around the perimeter of the lake, as well as fishing! If you have more time and can stay for a few days, there is even a cool campground further up the mountain, with a paved trail that leads straight to the lake. Our little man loves his little pack to explore the trails with us. He makes sure to point out all of the birds and ducks!

Even on nights we stay at home, we like to hang out in the back and look at the stars, and sit by the fire. Although, with a crazy baby who loves the light and the flames of the fire it makes it a little trickier to sit and enjoy the fire like we used to…but just being outside and doing what we love (even in our own backyard) still gives us the feeling of freedom and the ability to instill in our children a love of nature too. Life is just better when you add fresh air, a campfire, the stars, and of course s’mores 😉

What are some of your favorite things about being home? Do you have any places you love to go close by?

  1. It’s so nice to be happy where you are and in the place you call home. Our home is where the camper stops. So, yes, we enjoy many places and our scenery always changes, like a continuous backyard. 🙂

  2. I just love seeing the joy you two have with your little boy. He will grow up confident and caring about the natural world. We need many more kids like that to keep our natural resources there for their children.

  3. I am so lucky to have some of these places close by yo where I live as well and I totally relate to your words. We always say how lucky we are to live in a place like this.
Your little is getting so big already and he is beyond adorable. Sending much love and best wishes always. 💙

    1. Oh thank you so much! He is getting so big! I can hardly believe it sometimes I still feel like he’s my little baby and then I look at him running around and playing and realize he’s turning into a big kid! Lol
      Thank you for reading! 💖
